Windows notifications can be useful, but they can also become overwhelming or distracting. If you want to stop them completely, follow these easy steps to disable notifications forever.
1. Open Settings
a. Access the Settings Menu
- Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Alternatively, you can click on the Start menu and select Settings.
2. Navigate to Notifications Settings
a. Go to System Settings
- Click on “System” in the left sidebar.
- This section controls various system-related settings, including notifications.
- Select “Notifications & actions” from the menu on the left.
3. Turn Off Notifications
a. Disable All Notifications
- Toggle Off “Notifications”
- Find the switch under “Get notifications from apps and other senders” and turn it off.
- Confirm Changes
- Windows may prompt you to confirm the change. If so, confirm by clicking “Yes” or “OK”.
b. Disable Specific Notifications (Optional)
- Scroll Down to “Get notifications from these senders”
- You’ll see a list of apps and services that can send notifications.
- Toggle Off Notifications for Individual Apps
- If you prefer to only stop notifications from specific apps, toggle off the switch next to each app.
4. Disable Focus Assist
a. Access Focus Assist Settings
- Go Back to Settings Menu
- Click “System” again if you’re not already there.
- Select “Focus assist” from the sidebar.
b. Turn Off Focus Assist
- Select “Off”
- This setting allows you to manage when notifications are shown. Setting it to “Off” ensures that you do not receive notifications during any time.
5. Modify Registry Settings (Advanced)
Note: This step is for advanced users. Incorrect changes in the registry can affect system stability.
a. Open Registry Editor
- Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
- Type
regedit
and press Enter.
- Type
b. Navigate to Notifications Settings
- Go to the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications
- Modify Notification Settings
- Right-click on the empty space in the right pane and select “New” > “DWORD (32-bit) Value”.
- Name it “ToastEnabled” and set its value to “0”.
c. Restart Your Computer
- For the changes to take effect, restart your PC.
6. Disable Notifications from Lock Screen
a. Open Lock Screen Settings
- Return to Settings Menu
- Click “Personalization” in the left sidebar.
- Select “Lock screen”
b. Disable Notifications on Lock Screen
- Under “Get notifications from apps and other senders on the lock screen”
- Toggle the switch to “Off”.
7. Additional Tips
a. Disable Tips and Hints
- Go to Settings Menu
- Click “System” again.
- Select “Notifications & actions”
- Uncheck “Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows”
b. Manage App Permissions
- Navigate to Settings
- Go to “Privacy”.
- Select “Background apps”
- Turn Off Background Apps
- Toggle off apps you do not want running in the background and potentially sending notifications.
