How to Fix Issues with Windows Media Player: 3 Effective Methods
If you’re experiencing problems with Windows Media Player, here are three methods you can try to resolve the issue.
Method 1: Run the Windows Media Player Settings Troubleshooter
- Open the Troubleshooter:
- The Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix some problems.
- To run it, search for “Troubleshooter” in the Start menu, select Troubleshoot settings, and then find Windows Media Player Settings under the list of available troubleshooters.
Method 2: Re-register Windows Media Player Files
Sometimes, re-registering specific files related to Windows Media Player can resolve issues.
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
- Click on Start and type
cmd
in the search bar. - Right-click on the Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Enter the Following Commands:
- Type
regsvr32 wmp.dll
and press Enter. - Type
regsvr32 jscript.dll
and press Enter. - Type
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
and press Enter.
- Restart Your Computer:
- After running these commands, restart your computer to see if the issue is resolved.
Method 3: Disable and Re-enable Windows Media Player
Disabling and re-enabling Windows Media Player in Windows Features can also help resolve issues.
- Turn Off Windows Media Player:
- Go to Start and search for Turn Windows features on or off.
- Open it and uncheck Windows Media Player under Media Features.
- Click OK and restart your computer.
- Turn On Windows Media Player:
- After your computer restarts, go back to Turn Windows features on or off.
- Recheck Windows Media Player under Media Features and click OK.
- Restart your computer again.
