How to Display Date and Time on Desktop

Keeping track of time and date on your desktop can improve productivity and help you stay organized. Windows and macOS offer straightforward ways to display and customize date and time on your desktop. Here’s a guide on how to set it up for both operating systems.

For Windows 10 and Windows 11

  1. Add Date and Time to Your Desktop Windows natively displays the date and time on the taskbar, but if you want a more prominent display on your desktop:
  • Windows 10:
    • Right-click on your desktop and select Personalize.
    • Go to Themes and click on Desktop icon settings on the right side.
    • In the Desktop Icon Settings window, check the option for Clock (this option is not always available in Windows 10; it might be more common in third-party widgets).
    • Click Apply and OK to save changes.
  • Windows 11:
    • Right-click on your desktop and select Personalize.
    • Click on Themes and then Desktop icon settings.
    • Check Clock to add a clock to your desktop, or use third-party tools for advanced customization.
    • Click Apply and OK.
  1. Use Third-Party Widgets For more customization options, consider third-party applications:
  • Rainmeter: A popular desktop customization tool that allows you to add various widgets, including clocks and calendars, to your desktop.
  • Fences: Provides desktop organization and includes options to add time and date widgets.
  1. Adjust Date and Time Settings
  • Right-click on the taskbar and select Adjust date/time.
  • In the Date & Time settings, you can change the time zone, format, and synchronize with an internet time server to ensure accuracy.

For macOS

  1. Display Date and Time on Desktop macOS shows date and time on the menu bar by default, but you can also customize it:
  • Click on the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
  • Go to Dock & Menu Bar.
  • Select Clock from the sidebar.
  • Check the options for Show date and Show day of the week to display additional information.
  • You can also customize the time format and whether to show the time with seconds.
  1. Use Desktop Widgets macOS does not have native desktop widgets for date and time, but you can use third-party apps:
  • iStat Menus: Offers detailed system monitoring, including date and time options.
  • Date & Time Widget: A simple app that displays a clock on your desktop.
  1. Set Time and Date Preferences
  • Open System Preferences and go to Date & Time.
  • Ensure that Set date and time automatically is checked for accuracy.
